Mary Peterson

Mary Elaine Peterson, age 80 of Wautoma, passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at Heartland House in Wautoma. She was born on October 12, 1939 in Rockford, IL to Bernard and Irene (Baker) Honl. The family then moved to Oaks, ND and in 1952 her family moved to Wautoma where they would operate the Silvercryst Resort and Hotel for several years. In 1964, Mary married Duane A. Peterson. Mary worked as a school teacher in Mt. Morris and Rosendale, at the Wautoma Library, Milty Wilty and Silvercryst. She was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Jaycees, Habitat for Humanity and American Legion Auxiliary. Mary enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren, she will be sadly missed.

Mary is survived by her children: Lisa (Paul) Hetzel, David (Kristin) Peterson; 10 grandchildren: Emma, Ben, Grace Hetzel, Jared, Grant, Linnea, Dawson, Karina, Mathias and Seth Peterson; brother: Jerry (Sandie) Honl; sisters: Joan Honl, Donna Tompkins; sisters-in-law: Sharon (Edward) Parsons, Nancy Honl; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Duane Peterson on June 10, 2004; two brothers: Ray and Tom Honl and brothers-in-law: David Tompkins and Jack Curtis.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM on Thursday, January 30, 2020 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wautoma with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery, Wautoma. The family will greet relatives and friends at church on Thursday, January 30, 2020 from 9:30AM until the time of services at 11AM.
