John Schmidt

John F. Schmidt, age 69, of Wautoma, passed away Thursday morning, Oct. 10, 2019 at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Appleton following a long illness.

He was born Dec. 9, 1949 in East Troy, the son of Basil and Mary (Schwartz) Schmidt. He married Susan B. Voss on May 17, 1971 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in East Troy.

John was a 1968 graduate of East Troy High School. Following the death of his father, he operated the family business, Basil Schmidt Oil Company in East Troy. In 1971, he went to work as a printer at Southern Lakes Publishing in Delavan. Later, John was a tour guide at Old World Wisconsin in Eagle until 1996. He was a 30 year member of the East Troy Volunteer Fire Department.

He is survived by his wife, Susan B. Schmidt, Wautoma; two sisters, Janet (John) Schmidt, Oxford, Judy (Robert) Atkinson, East Troy; two sisters-in-law, Donna Grunow, Coloma, Jeanne (Trace) Frost, Richford. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jeffrey Schmidt; and by his brother-in-law, Bryce Grunow.

At John’s request, following cremation no services will be held.
