Vernon L. Hovet

Vernon L. Hovet, age 81, of Wautoma passed away Monday evening, October 30, 2023 at his home.

He was born November 26, 1941 in Pennington County, Minnesota the son of George and Evelyn (Anderson) Hovet. He married Carol J. Carpenter on January 19, 1963 at Goodridge Lutheran Church in Goodridge, Minnesota.

Vernon was a 1960 graduate of Goodridge High School. Later, he moved to South Milwaukee where he worked for Bucyrus-Erie, Line Materials and Harley-Davidson. From 1971 until 1997 he was a home improvement contractor in Oak Creek. After moving to Wautoma, Vernon operated Oakwood Home Improvements. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed deer hunting, snowmobiling, NASCAR and all sports. He also liked to grow strawberries and pumpkins at his farm in Wautoma.

He is survived by his wife, Carol J. Hovet, Wautoma; five children: Darryl Hovet, Wautoma, David Hovet, Princeton, Dean (fiancée Lor) Hovet, Colorado Springs, CO, Dana (Steve) Radaj, Montello, DeeAnn (Ray) Buettner, Brooksville, FL; five grandchildren: Lexi, Daleon, Austin, Haley and Autumn; three brothers: Ronald Hovet, Homosassa, FL, Roger (Vera) Hovet and Curtiss (Sharon) Hovet, both of Thief River Falls, MN. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, other relatives and friends.

Vernon was preceded in death by his son, Daniel Hovet in 1995; his parents; three brothers, three sisters and by a niece.

Funeral services will be held 12 noon on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at Hope Lutheran Church in Wautoma with Rev. P. Michael Thomas officiating. Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 6, 2023 at Forest Hill Memorial Park in Oak Creek. Visitation will be held on Saturday at the church in Wautoma from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services.
