Thomas Ryan Pool, a deeply thoughtful, independent, and lovable man, passed away on March 31, 2026 peacefully in his sleep merely a week after his 75th St. Patrick’s Day birthday. Tom was the opposite of boring, a genuine friend and conversationalist, and a kind gentle soul all in one. If ever there was a complicated, loving and passionate person about so many things, it was Tom. He loved to “stick it to the man” and when you’d question his blunt philosophies, time would pass and he would have been right… too many times to count!

In his early years, Tom was raised in Northbrook, Illinois, and later moved to a lake home in Sleepy Hollow starting in 7th grade. He graduated from Dundee Community High School with the Class of 1969, and went on to study art at the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point.

Tom was an avid reader of books and constantly appeased his curiosity about history, recent discoveries, and natural remedies. Tom had a charming sense of humor, was an amazing listener, and had a poetically blunt way with words. He loved to help others. Discussion about mutual interests could keep you on the phone with him for hours at a time.

Professionally, he spent much of his life self-employed, proudly running his own printing business. His independence and work ethic reflected a rebellious streak paired with a deep sense of pride in doing things his own way. He approached life on his own terms, never afraid to stand apart from the crowd. Tom lived authentically and genuinely, thought deeply, and played hard as only an Irishman would be expected.

Beyond his curiosity and independence, Tom will be remembered most for his kindness and generosity. He loved animals. Dogs held a special place in his heart, followed closely by cats and horses, all of which brought him great joy and companionship throughout his life.

For 42 years, he shared his life with his devoted partner and soul mate, Diane

He is survived by his partner, Diane; his stepdaughter Aleasa (David), his step-granddaughters he was proud of (Zoey, and Skylar); his two sisters and their families; and many others who came to know him as family through friendship.
