Sheldon Wilcox

June 16, 1930 — December 22, 2014

Sheldon E. Wilcox, age 84, of Wautoma, passed away early Monday morning, December 22, 2014 while under hospice care.

He was born June 16, 1930 in the Township of Dakota, the son of Chester and Beatrice (Douglas) Wilcox. He married Ruth D. Taplin on December 31, 1949 in Wautoma. Sheldon was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and lived in the Wautoma area all his life. He attended the Raymond Country School and graduated Valedictorian in 1947 from Wautoma High School.

Initially, Sheldon's employment included the Waushara County Farm Agent Office, the U.S. Conservation Department, and Waushara Electric Cooperative where he worked as a lineman. Finally, Sheldon returned to "what he loved best"... Farming the land and raising his family.

Sheldon was always very interested in Education. He was involved in the Wautoma Area School District for 28 years by serving on the Board of Education as Treasurer, then President. He also served as Transportation Supervisor for the School District until his retirement in 1991.

He spent the last 14 years at his home on Bugh's Lake, which was officially christened "Greatland" by many friends that gardened there. His many memories of hunting and fishing, his love for his family, nature, and his deep faith in the Lord have served him well throughout his lifetime.

He is survived by his wife of almost 65 years, Ruth D. Wilcox, Wautoma; three children, Douglas (Leota) Wilcox, Wautoma, Mary (Brad) Jones, Oshkosh, and Shelley Wilcox (Dale Driscoll), Fond du Lac; grandchildren, Natalie (Marc) McCann, Seattle, WA, Shawn (Anna) Wilcox, Hortonville, Dean (Amy) Wilcox, Janesville, Sarah Wilcox (Marc Brakken), Madison, Emily Wilcox, Madison, Jessica (Brian) Wallace, LaCrosse, Christopher Jones (fiancée Nathali), Bangor, ME, Rebecca Ruhland (friend Ryan), Oshkosh; six great grandchildren, Madison, Aidan, Trevor, Ty, Braxton, and Aerin; one sister, Jeanne Moe, Kewaskum; one brother, Alan (Jane) Wilcox, Oshkosh; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Wilcox, Wautoma, Alice Oberle, Vashon, WA. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Sheldon was preceded in death by his son, Michael Wilcox; his daughter, Jayne Wilcox; his parents; two brothers, Harold (Ruby) Wilcox, Gordon Wilcox; one sister, Belva (Wayland) Becker.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at
2:00 p.m. at Leikness Funeral Home in Wautoma with Rev. Domnik Israel
officiating. Interment will be at Wautoma Union Cemetery at a later date.
Visitation will be held on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services.
