Selena F. Butzin

May 13, 1952 — December 27, 2025

Wild Rose

Selena Fern “Putts, Granny, Mom” Butzin graced the earth May 13, 1952 as the daughter of Harald F. and Elsie H. (Baier) Peterson. She lived a life full of love and family until she went peacefully into the night on Dec. 27, 2025 to meet her one and only love Glenn Roy “Butchie” Butzin whom she married on Sep. 18, 1971. She loved and cherished him all the days of her life, making sure each generation knew him and how proud he would be of them, especially the ones born after his death on Aug. 15, 2004.

Selena worked many jobs in her youth that she loved to share tales about. She started on the path to become a teacher but brushed that away to be fully present in her own children's lives. She worked as a home health aide the years in between her children “having their own lives” and becoming "Granny".

Mom/Granny was a person you could talk to about anything and everything. She had her own opinions, but she was sure to allow everyone else to have theirs too. She always put her babies’ and their babies' needs above her own and made them feel loved no matter what they got into, saying “they just need to try things and learn”. She had an easy way of making your issues seem smaller, that they “wouldn’t make a difference 100 years from now”. When her children/grandchildren brought others into the family, she made sure they knew they were welcomed.

She has had many hobbies through the years like gardening & rock collecting. The last several years she has kept busy quilting and metal detecting, and she eagerly shared these treasures with her family. Her favorite thing to do, though, was watch her children and grandbabies’ “adventures” and see them grow along the way. She wore her Granny shirts with pride everywhere she went, it was her way of bragging about having 23 of the “best grandkids ever”. She had so much love in her heart, though, she was “Granny” to many more than just those 23. Granny’s world was her family, and she was her family’s safe port in every little wave and storm.

Taking her memory forward are her children: Tobii (Chuck) Ives, Lacii Kautzer, Glenn H. Butzin, Benji (Dawn) Butzin, Russel (Sarah) Butzin, Nicholas (Xuan) Butzin, and Paxton E. (Crystal) Butzin. Her grandchildren: Ethan, Megan and Kaitlan Ives, Luke, Evan, Adam and David Kautzer, Vivian and Ivy Butzin, MaKenna and Broden Butzin, Oliver and Beatrice Butzin, Charlie, Adrian, Shiloh, Haylie and Kai Butzin, Cadence “Fable” (Gene), Ellie, Natalie, Isabel and Paxton T. Butzin. Her siblings: Wendy & Janine. Many brother/sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews. And a hodgepodge of people she loved and who loved her back from young to old and all in between.

Her children & grandchildren are gathering privately to remember her joyful life. Selena will be laid to rest on Good Friday at 2pm in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Coloma beside her husband Glenn, their son KyLee, and her parents. If you join the family on Good Friday please bring a memory or story in lieu of flowers, no memorial is being established. She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Steve Kautzer. Siblings: Mary, George, Jay, Jeff, Reid, Peter & Anthony. Nephews: Steven & Todd. And loving members of Glenn’s family.
