Robert L. “Bob” Greener age 81 of Wild Rose passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at his home. He was born on July 18, 1942 in Oak Park, IL to Louis “Lou” and Ardis (Murty) Greener. They moved to Dundee, IL. Following Lou’s 1949 cancer related death, Ardis and Bob moved to Wautoma to live with her brother, Leon “Specs” (Helen) Murty. In 1942 Ardis and Bob moved to East Center Street where neighbor, Ed Schlueter was a mentor figure to Bob along with his uncles. Bob was a 1960 graduate of Wautoma High School. He then worked at the Kleckhefer Box Company in Wild Rose. Following an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army he was employed by the Buckstaff Company. In May of 1977 he married Elizabeth “Betty” Berlowski Letourneau and they divorced in 1986.

Bob retired in 2005 and then worked for the Waupaca Buyer’s Guide delivering their commercial publication once a week in a rural area using his car. In the later years the route was discontinued. Through the years he lived in Oshkosh, Berlin, Wild Rose and twice in Wautoma.

Until his health declined, Bob loved attending Central Wisconsin Area Old Car Shows including the big one in Iola and browsing the cars from the 50’s and 60’s and his favorite, 1956 Mercury which he loved cruising in with his faithful dog Ben at his side. Next time you see a 1956 Mercury, think of him. He enjoyed talking about old cars or music from the past over a cold beer. He also attended many rummage sales and estate auctions in the hopes of finding something that struck his fancy, old records, model cars, books or old newspapers from days gone by. Bob also enjoyed going to fish fry’s on Fridays at Sluggers in Wild Rose.

He had a very impressive record collection of 45’s and albums. As the old Bob Seger song went, “Just take those old records off the shelf, I’d rather sit and play ‘em all by myself.” That described Bob perfectly.

Bob is survived by his cousins: Sherry (Charles) Dopp, Mark (Debbie) Murty, Marguerite (the late Ralph) Kramer; second and third cousin; many friends including the Perr family: Joni, Clare, Lucas and Kim; also Mary, Tina, Terry, Jeff, Norm F. Bowdie, Diane and his former wife, Betty. He was preceded in death by his parents, all of his aunts and uncles, many cousins, friends, two dogs and several pet cats.

According to Bob’s wishes, there will be no funeral services. He said, “When I cash in my chips, I want to go quietly!”
