Moose Balian

June 14, 1958 — October 12, 2015

Moose Balian, age 57, of Lebanon, WI, died on Monday, October 12, 2015, of a heart attack. Moose was born June 14, 1958 to John and Lorna (Kohl) Balian, in Hartford, Wisconsin. Moose attended elementary school in Hartford, WI, followed by graduation from Hartford Union High School in 1976. Moose went on to attend Milwaukee Area Technical College where he studied stone and brick masonry. After serving as a masonry apprentice and then journeyman, Moose enjoyed a career as a brick mason and builder. He was more recently employed at John Deere Corporation in Horicon. Moose was an avid sportsman; he loved bow-hunting and fishing and just simply being outdoors. His love of nature inspired Moose to plant thousands of trees in his lifetime and he was part of the Managed Forest Law Reforestation Tree Farm program in Wisconsin. Moose was also a certified Master Gardener. He enjoyed working in his gardens, canning and home preserving. Moose was a former member of the Lebanon Fire Department and EMS.


Survivors include his mother, Lorna Balian of Watertown, WI, loving partner Patti Schweitzer, brother Japh (Karen) Balian, and sisters Lecia (Robert) Benske and Poppy (Christopher) Manthey. Also survived by nephews Pierre (Tara) Balian, Andre Balian, Arrio Farugie, Jed Robinson, Jeremy (Nicole) Robinson, Devon Benske and Moses (Isabel) Balian. Nieces: Anoush (Joshua) Cowles, Tansy (Eric) Froemming, Teale Greylord, Mollea Greylord, Ayrie Manthey, Rheana (Aaron) Stanchik, Justine Robinson, Anika Benske, and Jasmine Farugie. Moose was further survived by daughter-figures Carrie Schweitzer and Katie Rauch and her sons Aiden and Liam Rauch; also by brother-in-law Harry Robinson, various cousins, great nephews and nieces, and many dear friends. Moose was preceded in death by his father John, and sisters Heather and Ivy.

A private tree planting and memorial gathering will take place with family at an unspecified date.
