Michael Lawrence Thompson passed away on to eternal life Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at Stevens Point Health Care Center at the age of 73. He was born in Racine on July 27, 1950. Michael attended high school at Wm. Horlick High School and met his wife Michael Anne Stupar there. He was hired as an engineer through the Chicago Northwestern Railroad at the encouragement of Uncle Ralph Cobb. Michael married Michael Anne in the summer of 1969. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. Michael retired from the Union Pacific Railroad in 2011 after 43 years. He enjoyed fishing/vacationing in Spooner WI, sitting in the front yard at the farm, train rides to Chicago at Christmas Time, camping, biking and canoeing with John Ross, a life-long friend, traveling with family, cookouts on the deck and darts in the garage. He enjoyed reading, watching the Three Stooges and anything about WWII and the Civil War, model railroading and joking around. Everyone had a “nick name”. Michael loved and cared for, along with his wife, many rescued dogs and cats over the years.
Michael is survived by daughter: Elaine M. Thompson (Michael Palmer); son: Michael (Vanessa) Thompson; grandchildren: Elias, Hollis, Jack, Eva, Liam, Finn, Michael (Mikey) and GiGi Thompson and Spencer Rose Palmer; brother: Timothy Thompson (Liz Tanner); sister: Karen (Dan) Larsen; sisters-in-law: Priscilla Thompson, Mary Ellen Stupar, Lynn (Mark) Landvatter; brother-in-law: Steven (Gitte) Stupar; cousins: Dennis “Moose” (Pat) Thompson, Norma (Dennis) Testin, Marie Thompson, George (Kay) Thompson and Gary Thompson; many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his mom and dad: Ruth Betty (nee: Woelfel) and Lawrence “Tommy” Thompson, in-laws: Louis and Florence (nee: Rose’) Stupar; aunts: Elaine (Ralph) Cobb, Gina (Mel) Douglas, , Norma and Bernice Thompson; uncles: Harland “Hank” (Elizabeth) Thompson, William (Marianne) Woelfel; brother: Don Thompson (Priscilla); sister-in-law: Nancy (Timothy) Thompson and his wife: Michael Anne Thompson.
A remembrance gathering will be held July 27th in Wautoma for immediate family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mike’s memory to the ASPCA or the School of Veterinary Medicine, Madison WI.
