Merle Miller

February 26, 1916 — July 11, 2010

Merle Byron Miller, age 94, of Hancock, passed away early Sunday morning, July 11, 2010 at Wild Rose Memorial Hospital.

He was born February 26, 1916 in the Town of Leola, Adams County, the son of Lyman Henry and Margaret (Rathermal) Miller. He married Clara Belle Lowell on June 9, 1946 in Wisconsin Rapids. She preceded him in death on February 28, 2002.

Merle had a love of God, family and his country. He was a faithful member of the Hancock Wesleyan Church. He served his country in World War II in Germany and France and continued his patriotism by being a longtime member of the Hancock American Legion Post.

He was a longtime employee of the Flying Dollar Ranch in Rural Hancock. He also had been employed by Preway in Wisconsin Rapids, Charles Chevrolet, Coloma and retired from Power Pack in Westfield. Merle and his sons also owned and operated Miller's Standard Service Station in Hancock.

Merle had a passion for music and was a member of the band "Ray's Playboys" and also the family band, "The Sodbusters". Merle will be remembered as having a very high work ethic and moral values. He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need.

He is survived by his five children, Dale (Jean) Miller, Independence, WV., Marilyn (Harold) Smith, Plainfield, Dean (Jill) Miller, Sheboygan Falls, Merle Miller, Hancock, Neil Miller, Hancock; 15 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; one brother Bernard (Marge) Miller, Gurnee. IL. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and best furry friend "Toby".

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Clara.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, July 15, 2010 at 11:00am in Hancock Wesleyan Church with Rev. Eric L. Hambrock and Pastor Al Wagner officiating. He will be laid to rest with full military honors in the Colburn-Leola Cemetery, Township of Leola, Adams County.

Visitation will be held at the Church on Wednesday evening from 5:00pm until 7:00pm and on Thursday at the Church from 10:00am until the time of services.

The Leikness & Stahl Funeral Home of Plainfield is assisting the family with the arrangements.
