Marcella Christian

July 19, 1909 — April 29, 2011

Marcella I. "Sal" Christian, age 101 of the Wautoma and Coloma areas died early Friday morning, April 29, 2011 at Lakeshore Manor, Oshkosh.

She was born July 19, 1909 in Wautoma, the daughter of Richard and Bertha(Thom) Gramse. After graduating from Wautoma High School in 1927, she was employed at the Mercantile Store in Wautoma, a job she loved for many years and talked about frequently.

She married Loyal "Pat" Christian on August 6, 1938 at Peace Lutheran Church in Wautoma. Pat's teaching and coaching positions took them to Cedarburg, Appleton and Westfield before they settled in Coloma where they took over Pat's father's tavern. Pat and Sal poured drinks, served food and told jokes for 22 years before they retired in 1970. They also enjoyed many years at their cottage on Pleasant Lake and spent winters in Homestead, FL. Sal's wish was to die in Wautoma and therefore, she moved to Heartland House several years ago. Her failing eyesight and fragility, however required her to move on for care at the Lakeshore Manor in Oshkosh.

Sal is survived by her sons: Thomas (Luann) of Green Bay and William (Yvonne) of Wisconsin Rapids; grandchildren, Julie Christian of Las Cruses, NM; Daniel (Cori) Christian of Winston-Salem, NC, Victoria (John) Rude and John Christian, of Minnesota. She is further survived by one great-grandchild Carley of Winston-Salem, NC.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Pat, twin brother Marvin "Mike", her brothers and sisters Elmer Gramse, Harland Gramse, Evelyn Miller and Verna Henne.

Funeral Services for Marcella I. "Sal" Christian will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 1:00pm in Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Coloma, with Rev. Kelli Fisher officiating. She will be laid to rest in Prince of Peace Cemetery.

A time of visitation will be held on Saturday from 11:00am until the time of services at the Church.
