Lyle Schultz

June 21, 1926 — February 21, 2010

Lyle M. Schultz, age 83, of Wautoma, passed away Sunday evening, February 21, 2010 at Appleton Medical Center after a lengthy battle with cancer.

He was born June 21, 1926 in Wautoma, the son of Arthur and Nelda (Anderson) Schultz. He married Lila M. Schleicher on July 12, 1947 in Mount Morris.

Lyle was a lifelong member of Grace United Methodist Church. Mr. Schultz served his country in the United States Marine Corps during World War II and was a participant in the Surrender of Japan. He was an active member of the Wolman Minskey American Legion Post 317 of Wautoma for over 60 years. Lyle was dedicated to education, devoting 37 years of faithful service to Wautoma Area Schools as a teacher, coach, athletic director and friend. In recognition, the school district dedicated in Lyle's name, the Lyle Schultz Athletic Complex. Lyle was a faithful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and educator. He took great pride in his community and served as caretaker for several friends and family members.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lila M. Schultz, Wautoma; his children, Barry (Diane) Schultz, Muscoda, Bonnie (Don) Lang, Omro, Brian (Kathy) Schultz, Litteton, CO., Brent (Amy) Schultz, Buffalo Grove, IL., Bart (Brenda) Schultz, Maple Grove, MN.; 19 grandchildren, Quinn (Stacy), Kyle (Ellen), Casey (fiancee' Mallory) Schultz, Jeff (Erin), Tim (special friend, Robin), Ben (Sarah) Lang, Josh (Jill), Andy, Dan, Matt, Jessica, Allison Schultz, Naomi, Emma, Abby Schultz; Bryan, Amy (fiance' Nate) Michael Anderson and Michael Schultz.; five great grandchildren, Jadyn, Kylie, Makenna, Berkleigh and Baylor; one sister, Beulah Stecker, Davenport, IA.; a brother-in-law, Orin (Maxine) Schleicher, Wild Rose; further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many special friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Boyd and Howard and a brother-in-law, Bob Stecker.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, February 26, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, Wautoma with the Rev. George J. Kafer officiating. Burial will be in the Wautoma Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the Leikness Funeral Home and from 9:30 a.m. Friday until time of services at the church. In lieu of flowers a memorial in Lyle's name has been established. The family wishes to thank Theda Care Hospice and Appleton Medical Center for all their loving care.
