Leona Bartel

September 14, 1913 — February 14, 2010

Leona A. Bartel, age 96, formerly of Wautoma, passed away early Sunday morning, February 14, 2010, at Evergreen Retirement Community, Oshkosh. She was born Sept. 14, 1913 in Arcadia, the daughter of Edward W. and Helen A. (Detert) Marks. She married Raymond Hansen in 1941. He died in 1944. Later, she married Rev. Arthur H. Doescher in 1955. He passed away in 1958. She married Harold C. Bartel in 1963. He preceded her in death in 1984. Leona taught High School Typing for many years until her retirement. She was a faithful member of Grace United Methodist Church in Wautoma for many years. Leona served as church organist, taught adult Sunday School, and belonged to the United Methodist Women and Good Will Circle. She was a member of Wisconsin Retired Educators Association, Waushara County Retired Teachers Association, Wautoma Woman's Club, and AARP. Leona enjoyed flower gardening and had resided at Evergreen Retirement Community in Oshkosh since 1992. She survived by threestep-daughters, Janet Wade, Wautoma, Susan (Robert) Reindl, Lakewood, Colorado., and Beth White, Chagrin Falls, Ohio; one stepson, DeLorman (Marion) Bartel, Richmond, Virginia; one brother, Dr. Ora Marks, Merrillville, Indiana; two nephews, James Marks, Merrillville, Indiana, Dr. David Marks, Tulsa, Oklahoma; one brother-in-law, Edward Bartel, West Bend. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents and by two stepsons, David Doescher and Frederick Doescher. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church with the Rev. George J. Kafer officiating. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the Church. If desired, memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist in Wautoma, Evergreen Retirement Community or Aurora VNA Hospice.
