Leon G. Sanchez Jr, 68, of Wautoma, WI beloved husband and best friend of Gloria (Munoz) Sanchez for 50 years passed away peacefully surrounded by the ones he laughed with, lived for and loved on Oct. 2, 2014 in Wild Rose, WI.

Leon was born in Cuero, TX on June 21, 1946 to Leon Sr. & Andrea (Gomez) Sanchez. As a young man and the eldest in his family, he quit high school to help his large family by working in a cotton mill and thereafter in field work as a migrant worker. It is there where he met his best friend, soul mate and love of his life, Gloria - they married in Vernon, Texas on Dec. 9, 1963. Leon and Gloria celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary by renewing their vows with their children & grandchildren on Dec. 9, 2013 at St. Joseph's Church in Wautoma, WI.

Leon was an incredibly intelligent man who pursued his educational training at Mid-State Technical College in Wisconsin Rapids and received his GED, as well as associate's degree in Business Administration. He worked for State of WI's Job Service, Wood County Emergency Government, McMillan Memorial Library, assisted with translating services to the Wisconsin Rapids Twins baseball team, and worked 20 years for Kimberly-Clark Paper Mill in Whiting, WI as a cutter operator. Due to his failing health, Leon retired from KC and enjoyed his last years with family, friends and neighbors in Texas, as well as Wisconsin.
Leon loved sports - golf, baseball, and football, as well as biking, hunting and fishing. He was a proud family man and loved his family dearly. Leon's favorite pastime was attending mass on Sundays, barbecuing, traveling, a monthly visit to the local casino, spending time with family and watching football. Leon enjoyed being outdoors, listening and singing to a variety of music in English and Spanish, and meeting new people.

Leon is survived by his wife of 50 years: Gloria, Wautoma; four children: John M. Sanchez, Nekoosa, Rebecca J. Segovia (Daniel), Nekoosa, Cynthia A. Loa (Javier), Wautoma, Rick S. Sanchez (Bridget Nelson), Nekoosa; mother in law: Margarita (Leyva) Munoz; daughter in law: Cindee M. (Carlson) Hernandez; grandchildren: Leon R. Sanchez IV (Naomi), Jennifer R. Sanchez (Mario Vela), Timothy D. Wolf (Irina), Daniel J. Segovia, Brittany A. Sanchez, Kassandra R. Aldana, Jessica C. Segovia, Michael A. Loa, Javier M. Loa Jr., Kristoffer E. Ysquierdo, Thalia E. Loa, and Annayellie A. Ysquierdo; Great Grandchildren: Kaiden Sherman, Xzaylia & Leon Sanchez V, Mario Vela, Bianca Wolf, Xavier Doherty, Braiden Krekling and Izrael & Dominyk Aldana; brothers: Paul, Samuel (Susan), Reynaldo and Larry (Lisa) Sanchez of Wisconsin, Ernest (Fela) and Salvador (Ellen) Sanchez of Texas; sisters: Blanca (Ben) Ruiz, Gloria (Fred) Villarreal of Texas; many God-children, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his son: Leon Sanchez III; infant daughter:r Nancy E. Sanchez; his parents: Leon & Andrea Sanchez; in-laws: Arturo Munoz & Juan Munoz and Glenda (Tunks) Sanchez; sisters: Mary Jane Trevino, Dorothy Ruiz (Juan), and Julia Cornwell (David).

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30am on Thursday, October 9, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wautoma with Father David Greskowiak officiating followed with a luncheon at St. Joseph's parish Hall. The family will greet relatives and friends from 5-7PM on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at Leikness Funeral Home, Wautoma with a Rosary Service at 7PM. The visitation will continue on Thursday at church from 9:30AM until the time of Mass at 10:30AM.
