Kelly Charles Schmid, 78, of Wautoma, Wisconsin, formerly of West Bend, Wisconsin, passed away on September 6, 2025.
Kelly, known best to his family and friends by his nickname, Skeet, was born in Illinois on May 21st 1947. The first of four children to Arthur Schmid and Verna Johnson Schmid of West Bend.
An avid lover of machines, Skeet worked on race cars at Slinger Speedway in Slinger, Wisconsin, held a private pilot’s license, and enjoyed riding his motorcycle which in later years was turned into a trike which he rode on several trips across the country. Skeet was also a man about sports. While he enjoyed watching a good football game, he would much rather be in the bowling alley competing in a league, on the ski hill as a member of the Ski Patrol, at the range shooting trap with the various teams he was on, or on the trail shooting sporting clays.
Skeet loved his career as tool and die maker, another connection to his love of machines. The first half of his career was spent working in his parents’ business, Midcities Tool & Die of West Bend. The second half of his career was spent at Harmon Tool & Die, also in West Bend, until 2006 when he retired to head up to Wautoma and build the house he and Mary would call home until his death.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Arthur and Kurt Schmid. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Mary (See) Schmid, his son Russell Rappel Schmid of Bella Vista, AR, grandson Jared Rappel Schmid of Farnham, VA, and brother Kevin Schmid of West Bend.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, September 18, 2025 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wautoma with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery, Wautoma. The family will greet relatives and friends at church on Thursday, September 18, 2025 from 10AM until the Mass begins. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
