Janice M. Buckley, age 73, of Princeton, passed away peacefully Friday, August 19, 2022 at Silver Lake Manor in Wautoma.

She was born January 13, 1949 in Madison, the daughter of Melvin E. and Jeanette M. (Stricker) Ellefson.

Jan’s profession was Land Surveying both in California and Wisconsin. She was an advocate of people’s rights and their ability to have a choice and voice.

Jan was very proud of her 35 years of sobriety. Special thanks to the Friends of Bill W.  She loved animals, especially dogs. Jan was devoted to her dogs Kiz and Kaz.

Jan’s lifelong partner, Don Smawley Sr. whom she met while residing and working in California. Together, they moved to Wisconsin so Jan could assist in the care for her father Melvin and to start a land surveying business called RTHCAD.

Survivors include Don Smawley Jr., Billy Smawley and Linda Smawley, all of California; her close friends and neighbors, Jay, Julie and their children Jacob and Jayne.

People to thank on Jan’s behalf are, Friends of Bill W., Meals on Wheels GL County, Green Lake Health and Human Services her care workers, Princeton Public Library and staff, Thedacare Hospice and Cherry Meadows Hospice Appleton, Pastor Karin, Stacy RN and Brittany SW, Silver Lake Manor Wautoma for the care provided Jan this past month and a half, Thedacare Ripon Clinic, Dr. Joe Longo for his years taking care of Jan’s medical needs.

Thank you to the many people who helped Jan after her house fire.  Thank you to the neighbors on Water and Howard Street in Princeton. Sue, Elliot, Ann, Bob, Debbie, Susan, Jay, Julie, Terri, Jimmy, Craig, Denise and Brittany.  Thanks to Jeff for snow removal and mowing the lawn.  Ted Kuklinski thanks for always checking on Jan.  Thanks to Don’s children in California for the phone calls, gifts and cards know she loved you very much.  Richard and Susan for always helping Jan.  Princeton Police Department for keeping watch on the house.

Any donations on Jan’s behalf can be forwarded to the Green Lake Animal Shelter.

At Jan’s request, no services will be held. The Leikness Funeral Home of Wautoma is assisting the family with arrangements. www.leiknessfuneralhome.com
