Gerald Rossmann

October 4, 1929 — March 8, 2018

Gerald W. Rossmann, age 88 of Hancock, passed away peacefully, at the Atrium Post Acute Care of Stevens Point, on Thursday, March 8, 2018.  Loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, Gerry, is now home with our Lord and Savior resting in comfort and peace.  Gerry was born on October 4, 1929 in Racine, Wisconsin to Bernice and Carl Rossmann.  While in high school, Gerry was in a severe accident and was unable to finish school at William Horlick High School in Racine.  After a long recovery period, Gerry worked at several companies including Massey Harris, Andis Clipper and Sears.  On September 26, 1953, he married his best friend and true love, Florence (Mehlhouse) at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Racine, WI, and lived in Racine the majority of their lives.  At the encouragement of Florence, he finished his high school courses and earned his GED in July of 1966.  Gerry had a successful 38 year career at Webster Electric Co., where he as a project designer, finally retiring in 1991.  Gerry and Florence had a dream to build their retirement home somewhere in the woods up north from Racine.  They both loved being outside with nature, so they found some property and both built their retirement house where they enjoyed 26 wonderful years together.  Gerry enjoyed woodworking, building many things for his family, friends and for his church.   Gerry and Florence also loved the Lord so dearly.  They attended church at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Coloma, WI, where they both served as financial secretaries, and loved to sing in the choir.

Gerry is survived by his loving wife Florence of 64 years, and his children Mark (Diana) Rossmann of Savage, MN, Annette (Dale) Mills of Wausau, WI, and Paul (Dori) Rossmann of Racine, WI.   Grandchildren, Mike (Bridget) Rossmann, Adam Rossmann, Kimberly (Brett) Swenson, Geoffrey (Amy) Rossmann, and Haley Rossmann.  Great grandchildren Cody and Reagan Rossmann and Kyann Swenson.  His brothers, Wayne (Marilyn) Rossman of Sturtevant, WI, and David (Diane) Rossman of Racine, WI.  Sister-in-law, Virginia Donnelly of California, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, and wonderful neighbors in Hancock, WI.  Gerry was proceeded in death by his infant son Roy, his parents Bernice and Carl, his father and mother in-law, Louis and Louise Mehlhouse, his brother, Roger Rossman, his brothers-in-law, Albert Metzger and Wilbur Donnelly,  sisters-in-law, Mary Rossman, Viola Metzger, and Betty Rossman.

A memorial service is planned for Saturday, March 24, 2018 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 409 N Slater St, Coloma, WI 54930.  Visitation will be at 10:00 am until the time of service at 11:00am.  A luncheon will be served following the service.  Per Gerry’s wishes, he was cremated and his ashes will be interned with his son Roy at a later date.

The memorial service that was set Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 322 Ohio St, Racine, WI 53405 with visitation will be at 1:00 pm until the time of service at 2:00 pm followed by a reception is postponed until further notice.

Finally, the family wishes to thank all of the caregivers who took care of Gerry at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, and especially to Pastor Joyce Heintz for being such a great inspiration, both spiritually and personally to us all, and to Pastor Karen Pahl for her inspiration and support to our family at his Racine memorial service.
