George Bainbridge

George M. Bainbridge, age 88, of Wautoma, passed away Friday afternoon, February 26, 2010 at The Lund Hospice Home in Gilbert, Arizona.

He was born May 24, 1921 in Sioux City, Iowa the son of Archie and Mary (Lathrop) Bainbridge. He married Mary E. Humphrey on September 16, 1945.

Mr. Bainbridge served his country in the United States 3rd Army,Signal Corp during World War II. He served for six years in England, Ireland, Iceland, France and Germany. He was a decorated veteran and a member of the American Legion.

George accepted a position with the Wisconsin Power and Light Company upon his discharge from the military in 1945. He relocated to Wautoma in 1964 where he continued his employment with the Wisconsin Power and Light Company. He retired in 1982 after a career spanning approximately 37 years.

George was an active member of the Wautoma Community and the Grace United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Wautoma and the Order of the Eastern Star of Beloit, WI. He served the community as a participant of Kiwanis, the City Council, Crime Stoppers, a Deputy Sheriff, the Library Board and a Friend of the Library. He was appointed and later elected to the office of Municipal Judge.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years Mary E. (Humphrey) Bainbridge, Wautoma. He is also survived by his two daughters, Sandra (Bainbridge) Ahern and Sue (Bainbridge) Latzko.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday March 8, 2010, at the Leikness Funeral Home and from 10:00a.m. on Tuesday until the time of services at the church. A Masonic Service will be held at the close of the visitation on Monday at the funeral home. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, Wautoma with the Rev. George J. Kafer officiating.
