Evelyn W. (born Whitman; formerly McLean) Houghton

Evelyn W. Houghton, age 111, the oldest living person in Wisconsin, passed away peacefully in the early morning on September 18, 2026, in Wautoma, Wisconsin, with family by her side. Born July 24, 1915, in Lynn, Massachusetts, Evelyn lived a life of quiet strength, sharp intellect, and enduring grace that spanned more than a century.

A graduate of Radcliffe College with a degree in psychology, Evelyn devoted part of her early career to teaching children with polio at the hospital in Marquette, Michigan. There, she worked with young patients undergoing reconstructive surgery on their arms and legs, offering both instruction and compassion to children living with the effects of a then-devastating disease. Her work reflected a lifelong commitment to helping others with patience, dignity, and heart.

Evelyn was first married to Kennerly Donald McLean and later to Marvin Houghton. She was a devoted mother, stepmother, and grandmother whose presence brought light and steadiness to those around her. She was blessed to see four generations of grandchildren. Her grace and full-of-life personality will be treasured by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

She is survived by her daughter, Trudy Ann Miszkiewicz, and son-in-law, Henry Miszkiewicz; her son, Willard McLean, and daughter-in-law, Ellen McLean; and her daughter-in-law, Judy Houghton. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Michael Misk, Steven Miszkiewicz, Hope Miszkiewicz, John McLean, Dennis McLean, Angela Smith, Doug Houghton, Heidi Houghton, Heather Houghton LaFrenier, Paige Houghton, Sam Williams, and Trent Williams.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her first husband, Kennerly Donald McLean; her husband, Marvin Houghton; her daughter, Mary Helen McLean; her stepdaughter, Nancy Williams; her stepson, Douglas Houghton; her grandson, David Miszkiewicz; and her grandson, David Williams.

Evelyn has been cremated under the care of Leikness Funeral Home. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

Evelyn now rests with the loved ones who went before her. Her long life stands as a testament to resilience, kindness, and the quiet power of a spirit that remained vibrant to the end.
