Edith ‘Edie’ Louise (Becker) Bursack, age 90, of Wautoma, WI entered into her eternal rest on Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at Theda Care Medical Center in Berlin.
She was born October 7, 1935 in Wautoma, the only child of Leonard and Lula (Mittelsteadt) Becker. She married Garth L. Bursack on May 30, 1953 in Wautoma. They were blessed with 45 years of marriage. He preceded her in death on September 24, 1998.
Edith was employed by the Wautoma Area School District as a custodian for 46 years until her retirement in 2003. She was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Wautoma where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. Edith also belonged to the Altar Guild and Women of Trinity. She loved to volunteer at the Waushara County Fair, as well.
Edith was gifted at knitting and embroidery. She used her talents in these areas to give treasured, homemade gifts to bless others. She also enjoyed conversing with family, friends, and strangers; reading; spending time outdoors and going to the woods; and a good game of UNO. She appreciated companionship with her orange tabby cat, Henry.
Edith will be remembered for her great sense of humor, warm smile, and laughter, as well as her down-to-earth, authentic, and charismatic personality. She faced life’s trials with resilience through trust in Jesus, her Savior.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be deeply missed by her family. Her family honors her for giving them life.
She is survived by her three children, Sandra Smits of Green Bay, WI; Robert (Georgia) Bursack, of Cary, IL; and Joan (Donald Scherrer) Bursack of Two Rivers, WI. Edith was the cherished grandmother to six grandchildren, Sara (Clint) Keeney, William (Krystle) Smits, Brenda Smits, Benjamin (Melissa) Bursack, Sara (Josh) Schmanke, and Susan (Ryan) Fitzgerald, and 13 great-grandchildren, Jack, Claire, and Pearl Keeney; Elsie and Sienna Smits; Chamonix, Elias, Valdez, and Meribel Bursack; Isaiah, Tobijah, and Asa Schmanke; and Jake Fitzgerald.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, brothers-in-law, Arthur and James Bursack; sisters-in-law, Verna Bursack and Rogene Hentz; and son-in-law, William Smits.
Visitation will be at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wautoma, on Monday, November 10, 2025, at 10:00 am, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am, with Rev. Brian D. Rohde officiating. Edith will be laid to rest next to her husband at Wautoma Union Cemetery, followed by lunch in the church basement.
