Darrell Smith

October 25, 1932 — January 31, 2017

Darrell D. Smith, age 84, of Hidden Springs Lake, rural Neshkoro, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, January 31, 2017 at his residence.

He was born October 25, 1932 in Murray, Iowa, the son of Harold and Idris (White) Smith. He married Hazel D. Shrimplin on October 9, 1960 in Forsyth, Montana.

Darrell was raised on a livestock farm in southern Iowa. He graduated from Truro High School, Truro, Iowa. Later, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree from Iowa State University. He and his family resided in Montana and Nebraska before moving to Hidden Springs Lake in 2009. He worked as a Real Estate Appraiser for 52 years until his retirement in 2009.

He enjoyed bowling and photography. Darrell was a member of the United Methodist Church of Cairo, NE where he served as trustee and church treasurer. He was currently a member and trustee of Grace United Methodist Church in Wautoma.

He is survived by his wife, Hazel "Dee" Smith, Neshkoro; one son, James D. Smith, Cairo, NE; one daughter, Diana L. (TJ) Bettencourt, Crystal Lake, IL; three grandchildren, Lindsay Smith, Tona (Kevin) Bock, Dalyn Buettner; two great grandchildren, Gracyn Bahr and Kaden Bock. He is further survived by other relatives and friends along with his loving canine companions, Gracie and Missy.

Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017 at 10:30 a.m.at Grace United Methodist Church in Wautoma with the Revs. Rafael Cubillette and David Nathan co-officiating.

Relatives and friends may greet the family at a luncheon at the Church following the services. A Memorial is being established in Darrell's memory.
