Bernard D. Johannes, age 89, of Wautoma went to be with our Lord and Savior surrounded by his family on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at Theda Care Medical Center in Waupaca.
He was born September 11, 1934 in the Township of Deerfield, the son of Earl and Hazel (Koch) Johannes. He married Betty L. Hansen on December 18, 1954 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waupaca.
Bernard was a 1952 graduate of Almond High School. He was employed at Waushara Electric Cooperative/Adams-Columbia Electric in Wautoma for 40 years until his retirement in 1996. An avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting, fishing, gardening, yard work, hobo dinners and growing his beloved dahlias. He also enjoyed designing and building his home as well as helping design and build the homes of family members. Most of all, Bernard loved being with his family and was affectionally known as “Tic Tac Papa”.
Bernard was a longtime faithful member of West Holden Lutheran Church. He served on the Church Council, was an Usher and assisted in the planning and building of West Holden Lutheran Church. He also served on the Town of Wautoma Board and was a Big North advisor at the High School. He will be deeply missed by his loving family.
He is survived by his loving wife, Betty L. Johannes, Wautoma; five children, Terry (Susie) Johannes, Wautoma, Debby Johannes, Wautoma, Gary (Marganna) Johannes, Wautoma, Larry (Julie) Johannes, Wild Rose, Steven (Patricia) Johannes, Richford; 14 grandchildren: Shannon Johnson (Larry Wilson), Brandie (Mark) Keene, Jason (Jennifer) Crouch, Amberly (Mike) Mathews, Jeremy (Ashley) Meyer, Casey Johannes, Amanda (Tim) Kranz, Genna (Casey) Schwandt, Tracee (Coby) Mulville, Kimberly Johannes (Brian Hughes), Kenneth Johannes (Sandy Edgerly), Tristan “TJ” Johannes, Nicholas Johannes, Steven “Scotty” (Desiraye) Johannes; great grandchildren: Oran, Renee, Noah, Emily Grace, Hannah, Olivia, Susannah, Layla, Israel, Arica, Taylor, Jordan, Alysha, Neil, Josiah, Vincent, Charlie, Ashley, Kristin, Kyler, Neven, Emma, Lydia, Addisyn, Cameron, Tanner, Riley, Maci, Lincoln and Scarlette; great-great grandchildren: James, Liam, Waylon, Katarina, Killian, Matthew, Cooper, Camron and one on the way; 14 siblings: Bernadyne Wilson, Redgranite, Delbert Johannes, Berlin, Allen (Shirley) Johannes, Berlin, Keith (Sharon) Johannes, Almond, Richard (Patricia) Johannes, Wautoma, Lewis Johannes, Wautoma, Beverly Zuehlke, Wautoma, Beatrice Edwards, Wild Rose, Belva (David) Rux, Berlin, Howard Johannes, Fremont, Albert (Carol) Johannes, Pine River, Barbara Brzostowski, Richford, Roger Johannes, Redgranite, Bonnie (Jeff) Zaremba, Wild Rose; brother-in-law, Gaylord (Ardene) Hansen, Waupaca. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Bernard is preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Kari Johannes; brother, Clayton Johannes; daughter-in-law, Lorie Ann Johannes; niece, brothers-in-law: Larry Wilson, Phil Zuehlke, Merle Edwards, Leon Brzostowski; sisters-in-law: Theresa Johannes and Loretta Johannes; niece, Julie Brzostowski.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at West Holden Lutheran Church in Wautoma with Vicar Amy Penza officiating. Inurnment will be at West Holden Lutheran Cemetery. A luncheon will be held following the services in the lower level of the church.
