Alma Elsa “Susie” Frohman, age 97, of Wautoma, passed away Thursday morning, May 15, 2025 at Heartland House in Wautoma.
She was born August 30, 1927 in Rhinelander, the daughter of Friedrich and Elfrieda (Langner) Heise. She married Claude Frohman on September 4, 1948 in Rhinelander. He preceded her in death on August 5, 2000.
Alma was a graduate of Rhinelander High School and continued her education at UW-Oshkosh where she earned a bachelor’s degree and UW-Madison where she earned a master's degree. She taught elementary grades in Menasha and Wautoma, ending her years of teaching as coordinator of the Outreach Program for the Portage Project in Portage, Wisconsin.
She was a longtime member of Peace Lutheran Church and at times taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and was a member of the Ladies Circle of Peace. She was a member of the Wautoma Area Woman’s Club, Rapid Readers Book Club, several other book clubs and served on the Election Board. An avid reader, she volunteered at the public library and served on the Library Board for many years.
She is survived by one daughter Sally (Rick Sroka); three sons, Lee (Suzanne Moreau), Michael (Marie Wolff), Mark (Lorelei); two granddaughters, Erica (John) Stindt and Colleen Davies; two great grandchildren, Desmond and Rowan Stindt. She is further survived by one sister, Marilyn (Bob) Straub; six step-granddaughters; one step-son; many step-great grandchildren along with many cousins in Germany.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Hilda, Alice, Norma and Clara.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in Wautoma with Rev. Nathan R. Laska officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will take place at Forest Cemetery in Birnamwood at a later date. In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established for the Wautoma Public Library.
