Albert Robert "Poody" Gosenheimer, age 82, died peacefully at Thedacare Hospital-Berlin on December 9. He was born on Valentine’s Day in 1943.
Although raised in Butler, WI, Pearl Lake in Redgranite was his second home. Poody and Judi met there and were married in 1967 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Butler, 58 years ago.
He graduated from Menomonee Falls H.S. where he earned the nickname, "Crusher" as a heavy weight wrestler. He was recruited to play football at Chattanooga. He worked as a metal fabrication supervisor at Ajax Corp in Butler, KSM in Germantown and Helgesen in Hartford.
As an adult he spent summers as a fishing guide in Canada, where he "adopted" a Native American family. Every person who needed a home or a home-cooked meal became family wherever he was.
Every year there were camping trips with friends and family and every kid learned to fish with Dad or Grandpa Goose. He gave up hunting when it was no longer necessary to feed the family, but confessed it became too difficult to shoot animals, even the bears he encountered.
His children called him the "Best Dad Ever" and he was a magnet to all dogs and kids (some adults too) because he loved everyone and treated everyone with dignity and respect. A homeless man and kids’ friends were treated like his own: Brian, Tammy, Bergie, Carrie and Hawkeye, and many more.
He was inducted into the Hartford H.S. Athletic Hall of Fame for his many years as a football statistician. He loved watching his children and great grandchildren's sports activities and hear about their successes - scholarships and state championships.
In his retirement, one of his favorite adventures was to drive his "lady friends" to the casino.
Many loved ones preceded him in death: his mother: Gladys McDermott Gosenheimer, his father: Albert "Ollie" Gosenheimer; brother: Bernard Gosenheimer; his in-laws: Ray and Patricia Bielmeier, Thomas Stobbe, Jim and Betty Wilke Thomas and many lifelong friends, family and beloved pets.
He leaves behind many who loved him: brother: John (Fran) Gosenheimer; children:: Marie Therese Lenling, Trish (Mark) Nagy, Heidi (Dan) Hoye, Jim (Suzanne) Gosenheimer, Dan (Pam) Gosenheimer, David (Lexi) Gosenheimer; grandchildren: Brad Lenling, Christopher Lenling, Dan (Gretchen) Lenling, Therese Lenling, Leah Lenling, Cassidy (Tony) Congemi, Jeremy Nagy, Jake Ehmke, Liz Ehmke, Kaitlyn Von Behren, Meghan Von Behren, Allison Gosenheimer, Ben ( Kaylee) Gosenheimer, Travis Gosenheimer, Hoxie Chatara-Gosenheimer and Mela Chatara-Gosenheimer; great grandchildren: Ava, Danny, Elowynn, Juniper, Claudia, Trenton, Malcolm, Aidyn, Aria; many nieces, nephews, aunt, uncles, cousins and friends, too many to mention.
The family wishes to thank the extraordinary nurses and doctors who cared for him so compassionately and the neighbors, family and friends who prayed for us all, especially Father J.P. and parishioners of St. Marks and All Saints Catholic Churches.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, Redgranite. The family will greet relatives and friends at church on Saturday from 9AM to 10:45AM with Mass to follow at 11AM.
